Mobile Application Management (MAM)

Mobile Application Management (MAM)

Mobile Application Management (MAM) refers to the centralized management and control of applications on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. MAM capabilities add significant value for corporate IT managers. From automated app updates that require no user intervention to password requirements, MAM is a key building block in enterprise cybersecurity strategies.

MAM is specifically about managing installed applications and data. Mobile Device Management (MDM)instead focuses on mobile device hardware and operating systems. When used together, MAM, MDM and Mobile Content Management (MCM) comprise the three pillars of Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM).

App management and data control

Implementing MAM enables IT admins to maintain control over app inventory and security on mobile devices. It simplifies app management, increases efficiency and helps ensure compliance with policies and regulations.

For example, IT admins at a company that uses a sales app, an inventory management app and a customer service app can control which apps are installed on which devices according to user needs. MAM also enables IT admins to set specific, detailed security policies such as requiring an encrypted connection for accessing sensitive corporate data.
