2024 in review: more cloud, more penguins, more control for IT teams

19. December 2024, Avatar of baramundibaramundi

When we look back on the events and developments at baramundi in 2024, we’re reminded of the title of a popular late 90s German song – "Everything remains different". That accurately describes our enormous growth in product capabilities and organizational depth while building on the core strengths and values that make us “baramundi”.

Short & sweet

  • More cloud options – baramundi Software as a Service
  • More penguins  baramundi Linux Devices
  • Argus Experience – more efficient, productive and satisfied users
  • Co-management with Microsoft Intune means more flexibility
  • More customers, depth and growth in the US
  • Goodbye Focus Tour hello Easy Days
  • Great Place to Work: more happy baramundians
  • More successful customer events and trade shows

More cloud options – baramundi Software as a Service

While the trend towards the cloud continues, many companies still prefer – or are returning at least in part to – using on-prem solutions to manage and secure their systems and data. To address those changing needs, baramundi started offering the baramundi Management Suite (bMS) as a Service. Customers who opt for the bMS SaaS benefit from a continuously updated and maintained feature set without the need to operate their own servers.

More penguins – baramundi Linux Devices

Linux systems are increasingly in use for a wide range of business IT purposes. The open source OS with the widely recognized penguin logo captured more than 4% of the market in 2024. Growth is likely to accelerate next year due to its low cost, flexibility, and relative security. In addition, organizations facing the end of Windows 10 support in October 2025 that want to minimize the cost of new systems needed for Windows 11 are considering Linux as a practical alternative. That’s why we’ve increased Linux device management capabilities in both major releases of the bMS in 2024, most notably with the new Linux Devices module available with bMS 2024 R2. We’ll continue to expand Linux management functions in future releases.

Argus Experience – more efficient, productive and satisfied users

Our Digital End User Experience (DEX) solution got a big increase in functionality in 2024. IT admins now have an comprehensive – and expanding – toolbox for proactively detecting and resolving common endpoint performance and reliability problems. Performance issues often can be eliminated before users notice and submit a ticket. Time that would otherwise be spent on reactive troubleshooting can instead be devoted to optimizing infrastructure, planning and strategic projects. We’ll be adding features throughout the year so stay tuned. The product roadmap for the DEX solution has many more surprises in store!

Co-management with Microsoft Intune means more flexibility

While bMS 2024 R1 focused on security with per-app VPN and local administrator password management, bMS 2024 R2 added a new category of functionality with the introduction of co-management with Microsoft Intune. IT departments can now combine the performance advantages of the baramundi solution with the features available in Intune without having to commit to one system. This means that existing bMS automations, configurations and processes can be used alongside functions such as Entra ID integration.

More customers, depth and growth in the US

Along with more customers, we continued to add depth to our management, sales and support teams in the US, including the arrival of veteran cybersecurity industry executive Andrew Warren as our new VP and General Manager for North America. Based at our US headquarters near Boston, Andrew brings a wealth of experience in senior roles at companies including OpenText Cybersecurity, FireMon, SYNNEX, Weston-Comstor, and Avent. He’s leading a growing team of dedicated sales and support experts serving our expanding base of US and Canadian customers in manufacturing, healthcare, municipal government, utilities, financial services and other industries.

Goodbye Focus Tour – hello Easy Days

At the start of 2024, baramundi decided to try an alternative to our decade-long series of Focus Tour events for prospective customers. Held at 16 locations within an hour of most IT people in German-speaking countries, our new series of Easy Days events was well-attended and garnered enthusiastic responses. We’re already planning the 2025 events using the ideas and feedback we received in 2024.

Great Place to Work: more happy baramundians

If there’s one thing that’s true for all baramundians, it’s that they really like working at baramundi. In fact, the company rose to 6th place among the top 100 companies in all of Germany in the 2024 Great Place to Work survey. That’s a phenomenal jump up from last year’s 12th-placeranking in the 251-500 employee category. We scored even higher – 4thplace – among the Best Employers in Bavaria and Best Employers in IT.

More successful customer events and trade shows

Our fall customer and trade show events were a great success. In the US, we captured a lot of positive attention at Spiceworld in Texas – especially by hosting after-show party. In Germany, the it-sa security conference and the SPS production automation show in Nuremberg were valuable events. And like it is every year, our come2gether and b2b2gether customer event was a great success and set a new attendance record in 2024.

More to come in 2025

The innovations we delivered and the growth we achieved this year were important not only in their own right, but also because they laid crucial foundations for even more in the coming year. Without giving too much away, watch for new developments with our Argus solutions in particular, and more broadly in the way we present our products. As we mentioned above, there’s more to come!

The entire baramundi teams wishes each of you a happy holiday season and a happy start to 2025.
