Android

Android is the world’s most widely used operating system for mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and smartwatches. It was developed by the Open Handset Alliance, a group of companies led by Google. Android is open source enabling developers to freely adapt and extend its use in multiple types of devices. Android and Apple’s iOS comprise the vast majority of mobile device operating systems.

Features and customizability

Android offers a user-friendly and customizable interface that users can personalize based on their needs and preferences. It supports a wide range of features including web browser, email client, multimedia playback, camera, GPS navigation, social networking and more. IT admins frequently manage user and company Android-based devices with mobile device management (MDM) tools.

Android in Unified Endpoint Management

Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) solutions play important role in the secure and efficient management of Android devices in enterprise environments. Management profiles and other features and tools in Google’s Android Enterprise solution enable IT administrators to centrally manage and enforce security policies and configurations on a variety of Android devices.

Zero Touch

Within UEM, Zero Touch Enrollment lets IT admins configure Android devices in advance to provide to employees. When a user powers on the device for the first time it automatically completes secure enrollment in an organization’s IT management system without any additional steps. This significantly reduces administrative overhead as devices are already provisioned with the necessary settings and configurations.
