Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows is an operating system (OS) developed and distributed by Microsoft. Windows provides a graphical user interface and a wide range of features that allow users to run programs, manage files, and access the Internet, and other devices and networks. There are several variants of Windows that are regularly updated to provide new features and security enhancements.

Features and deploy

Microsoft Windows is the most widely used OS for computers worldwide and is the primary operating system for PCs in most businesses and organizations. Ubiquitous use of Windows offers the advantage of a wide range of compatible software applications and an active global community of developers and users exchanging information.

Alternative operating systems include macOS from Apple and various implementations of Linux, an open source OS. The OS selected often depends on organizational or user needs, preferences and budgets.

Windows in everyday administration

One of the biggest challenges with Windows is keeping up with regular updates and patches issued to close potential security gaps and ensure system stability. In addition, IT admins often need to work with users to diagnose and resolve technical and usage issues ranging from simple configuration inquiries to complex troubleshooting.
